After fulfilling the requirements to become a certified elementary teacher, my personal values and expectations for myself as a teacher continue to develop and grow each day. As an educator, my commitment is to create a safe learning environment in the classroom where children can enjoy learning. I want to not only teach children, but to make a personal connection with them as well. I will implement effective teaching practices to address the different learning styles of my students in my classroom. By possessing a positive attitude, implementing good classroom rules, and using engaging lessons, I believe I have acquired strong commitments to the students in the class. Also, as a teacher I am committed to using research proven strategies that are student-centered with intrinsic motivation. Furthermore, by using these strategies in the classroom, it will also impact discipline policies, curriculum and instruction, classroom design, instructional strategies, and many more things. I know it is an extremely important to stay involved with the innovative styles of teaching that come out every year by attending workshops. To stay ahead of today’s new teaching strategies is a true commitment to the children and myself as a new teacher. In addition, the environment is an important factor in children learning in a classroom effectively. Every student is different and has special needs for guidance. I believe the best way is to learn as much as possible about my students. Steps in starting out a classroom community begin with finding out information about them, decorating the classroom, setting up a daily schedule, and building relationships with their peers.
Classroom routine is essential for students’ minds to grow and learn. In a classroom there should be a daily schedule on the wall for students to follow the order of the day in the classroom. Also, another way to help students follow the schedule is to use pictures showing what comes next and using words next to the pictures. Plus, the most important is keeping the daily schedule on track every day. All students learn at different levels and different learning techniques in the classroom. In my classroom I would have students paired up in groups of similar strengths. I would have multiple tables with different level activities for students to use with their partner. Students that finish early can help explain the activity with another group as the class waits for all students to finish.
