Beginning My Journey
I have had many influences in my life to contribute to my desire to become a teacher. First, my mom returned to school to earn her bachelor’s degree when I was fourteen. In the year that I graduated from high school, my mom completed college and attained a teaching certificate in mathematics for grades six through twelve. In addition, my mother tutored me in math during my high school years. Then, as I got older I had two children of my own. I started to teach my children the basics before they started school. When my oldest child entered kindergarten, I was very interested in how the teacher was going to influence my son in reading, writing, language arts, math, science, social studies, and health. Due to my growing interest in education, I started substitute teaching in Little Elm Independent School District’s elementary schools. I enjoyed being around the children and thought this might be something I could do for a career. At the time I started substitute teaching, I only had my high school diploma. I decided to go back to college and earn my degree so I could be an elementary teacher. Now I have finished my degree in EC-6 Generalist with ESL endorsement at Texas A & M Commerce Texas and am ready to begin a new chapter in my life.
